The sun rises in the east: over the Wadden Sea in Braderup.

Anyone who longs for peace, nature and plenty of space should take a break in Braderup every now and then.

The small Frisian village is nestled between Munkmarsch, Wenningstedt and Kampen on the east coast of the island and is thus directly adjacent to the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea.

For a long walk, it is best to park at Parking lot Üp di HiirFrom here, many paths lead along Sylt's east coast.

  • Tip: Enjoy a sunrise here - UNFORGETTABLE!

The Wadden Sea is a special landscape:

  • The mudflats (= the seabed) are flooded twice a day during high tide and dry out again at low tide, with the water flowing away through deep gullies.

  • The time interval between high tide and low tide is on average about six hours.

  • The Wadden Sea, formed around 7500 years ago, serves as a resting place and food source for many birds and fish. It is precisely for this reason that the Wadden Sea off Sylt is a nature reserve.

  • On a guided mudflat hike you will learn EVERYTHING about this special place

The Braderup Heath

Our natural jewel

Flowering heathland in summer

Long hiking trails lead north through the Braderuper Heide nature reserve and invite you to take peaceful walks at any time of year.

The heather is of course particularly fascinating when it blooms.
The colors and the scent are incomparably intense and are as much a part of summer on Sylt as salt is in water.
The rule of thumb for the flowering period of the heather is: August 08.08th to September 09.09th..

Of course, a hike through the nature reserve is also recommended outside of this short flowering period.
It is best to do this with an expert hiking guide on a heath hike with the Sylt Nature Conservation Association.

The Braderup Heath is so beautiful!

The Mariann shipwreck

The three-masted schooner was towed to Munkmarsch by young Sylt residents in 1961.
The plan was to set up a floating café there. However, the project failed because the permit simply wasn't granted.
Plans to set up a cabaret on the ship also came to nothing.
Finally, in 1981, a fire broke out on the ship, which had become a secret party hotspot.

Since then, one can only guess at the remains of the ship.

The White Cliff

The white cliff, located on the Wadden Sea in front of Braderup, fascinates with its very special play of colors.

The white color is created by the kaolin sand, which shimmers in many colors in the sunlight. Standing at the foot of the cliff or on a walkway above it, you have a magnificent panoramic view from Morsum across Keitum Bay to List and across to Denmark.

There is also usually absolute silence here - apart from the birdsong.

Forests and meadows and village pond idyll

Our cozy center

Wenningstedt-Braderup’s center is characterized by a natural expanse.

If you drive from Braderup to Wenningstedt, you will see a lot of green: meadows, forests and fields.

Many of these fields are Strawberry Paradise Braderup In summer, you can pick your own strawberries. The farm shop is open year-round and offers regional and seasonal organic fruit and vegetables.

Wenningstedt village pond

In the east the Wadden Sea, in the west the rough North Sea and in the middle the largest inland water of the island: the village pond

A walk around the pond always puts you in a good mood. In the middle of the water, a swimmer is calmly bathing with a lifebuoy, and a woman is just about to jump into the pond from the bridge.

The village pond swimmers are two particularly likeable Everyday people by the artist Christel Lechner.

Impressions from the village pond

Anyone who loves Sylt loves the North Sea.

The rough sea on the west side means so much to islanders and their guests:
A place of refuge, a source of strength, a source of fun, a bathtub, a sports field, a place to reflect and, of course, a place for romantic moments.

In short: The North Sea is simply THE attraction of the island.
Enjoy the fine sandy beach, let the sun shine on your face or brace yourself against the wind.

  • You will find a clear view of the sea and protection from wind and sun in your beach chair, which you can book before your vacation.

  • To ensure you enjoy the beach holiday you have been looking forward to all year, we have a suitable beach section for everyone Whether families, nudists, dogs with their owners or those seeking peace and quiet: we will get you relaxed.

  • And while you're in Wenningstedt, don't miss a walk to the famous Red Cliff. Located between Wenningstedt and Kampen, this geotope displays breathtaking colors, especially in sunshine.
