UNSERE TIERE
The Buurenstair is home to dwarf sheep, goats, and chickens. They spend the day with the sheep in the meadow, visit the children at the playground, or wait on the terrace during lunch, hoping for something tasty to eat.
Our pastures border directly on the children's play area, so the children have the opportunity to playfully interact with the animals at any time, observe them in their natural habitat, and communicate with them. The children learn where eggs come from, what they feel like when they've just been laid, and experience how they can use sheep's wool, what it smells like, and what products are made from it. They see and try out traditional craft and artistic techniques, skills, and abilities. For example, the children can see firsthand the journey wool takes, from shearing to washing (in large tubs with plenty of soap and a lot of muscle power), candying, and felting.
They learn that animals are cared for, fed, and respected, that not all animals are the same, and they learn the necessary respect for them. The children have a wide variety of experiences interacting with animals. Animals appeal to children's emotions and can be helpful in balancing feelings, as they have a stabilizing effect on children's psyches.
