Bike

TJEN DI BIIKI ÖN - On February 21st we drive away the winter with the Biike.

Along the North Frisian coast, large bonfires are lit in many towns. According to tradition, these bonfires were once used to bid farewell to sailors who set sail in the spring. Evil spirits are also said to have been driven away by the high flames...

The meeting point in Wenningstedt is the Frisian Chapel, where everyone stocks up on torches, warm soup, and mulled wine. Then everyone heads toward Biikeplatz, where, after speeches in Frisian and High German, the Biikehaufen (fire pile) is finally lit. In Braderup, the procession begins at the Biikefeuer (fire bonfire) at the Weißes Kliff Hotel.

HOME BY THE SEA

The book about the village

Twenty families in or from Wenningstedt-Braderup have opened their front doors, photo albums and hearts:

"Mr. and Mrs. Pastor" tell how they found happiness at the village pond after a fiery start 25 years ago. HSV legend Holger Hieronymus is a “second home” and prefers to come when it is really “nice and windy” and lonely in Wenningstedt-Braderup. The doctor explains why he sees no greater meaning in life than accompanying people in an island village from the cradle to their deathbed. Montefusco family of artists describes her journey through the metropolises of Europe to a colorful life with three small island children.

The picture book for the whole family with truly true life stories from the village between the mudflats and the waves.
