Sylt Ringreiter Tournaments

Traditional sport

Every year in June a Sylt tradition, which is as bizarre as it is spectacular: On horseback, equipped with a lance, the riders attempt to impale a tiny brass ring dangling from a rope between two beams, the gallows. This is not a niche sport on Sylt: Eight ring riding clubs with over 200 members are active on the island and hold their tournaments during the summer months, which are held in Archsum, Morsum and Keitum at home are always admired by a large audience.

Ring riding season

From May to August

The Archsum Ring Riding Club, founded in 1863, will host the opening of the ring riding season on Sylt at Pentecost on the village green in Archsum. The traditional conclusion of the ring riding year is the district ring riding competition for all clubs on August 30, 2026. Muasem Hüs in Morsum.

The tournaments start around 13.30:XNUMX p.m. and end with the King's and Queen's Riding in the early evening.

  • August 9th - Sylt Amazonen-Ringreiterverein from 1982 - Muasem Hüs, Morsum
  • August 30th, 13 pm to 18 pm – District ring riding competition for all clubs – Muasem Hüs, Morsum
  • September 5th – Children’s ring riding – Muasem Hüs, Morsum
