Sylt Ringreiter Tournaments
Traditional sport
Every year in June a Sylt tradition, which is as bizarre as it is spectacular: On horseback, equipped with a lance, the riders attempt to impale a tiny brass ring dangling from a rope between two beams, the gallows. This is not a niche sport on Sylt: Eight ring riding clubs with over 200 members are active on the island and hold their tournaments during the summer months, which are held in Archsum, Morsum and Keitum at home are always admired by a large audience.
