When the List Harbor Festival opens its doors on August 9, 2025, visitors can expect a very special highlight this year: The List Tourist Board and the Sylt Art Fair are jointly presenting the hands-on project "Children Help Children." Between 12 and 19 p.m., young guests can paint a real sail and thereby express their very personal ideas about sustainability, peace, and a more just world.
The campaign ties in with the international art project Sailing #Art4GlobalGoals, initiated by UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and founder of the YOU Foundation - Education for Children in Need - Dr. hc Ute-Henriette Ohoven in cooperation with Geuer and Geuer Art. Inspired by Stefan Szczesny's sailing paintings on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (UN), "Children Help Children" focuses on children's creative freedom: Whether climate protection, clean water, or education – any motif is welcome as long as it conveys hope and visions of the future.
Once the collaborative project is complete, the sail will be cut into individual, manageable sections. Interested parties can take these sections home for a donation of ten euros each. The proceeds will be split equally between the UNESCO-affiliated YOU Foundation – Education for Children in Need and a local Sylt charity project.
Parallel to the painting event, the Sylt Art Fair will present limited editions of Stefan Szczesny's Sailing #Art4GlobalGoals series alongside works by other international artists such as Bernar Venet, Erwin Wurm, Günther Uecker, and Heinz Mack. In addition, child-friendly and family-friendly tours of the exhibition grounds will offer a playful approach to modern art.
"With 'Children Help Children,' we combine artistic creativity with social commitment, creating a colorful symbol of peace and sustainability that will have an impact far beyond the day," says List's resort director Maiken Neubauer. "We are delighted to be setting an example together with the Sylt Art Fair and simultaneously supporting concrete aid projects."
Participation in the painting event and all tours are free; registration is not required. Families, holidaymakers, and locals are cordially invited to simply drop by and participate. Tours will take place on August 09th from 13 p.m. to 17 p.m., every hour on the hour. The meeting point is the main entrance of the Sylt Art Fair.
