Exhibition “Rüm Hart – Klaar Kiming”

Jonathan Lützen presents expressionist paintings about Sylt, origin and identity

The exhibition "Rüm Hart – Klaar Kiming" by artist Jonathan Lützen will be on display at the "Alte Post" city gallery on Sylt from April 2nd to 26th, 2026. The exhibition's title deliberately references the Sylt motto, as the works focus on Lützen's personal exploration of the island of Sylt as the home of his ancestors. The exhibition explores a complex emotional relationship with his heritage.

With Lützen, Sylt gains a young, highly talented artist who offers a fresh perspective on the island through the focus of his work. The series began with a personal piece about his grandfather's work as fire chief of the Kampen volunteer fire department. The 22-year-old then realized there were many more stories to tell. The theme of Sylt is the first major series that Lützen has explored over an extended period. To date, more than 60 works have been created, a dozen of which will be on display at the "Alte Post" city gallery from April 2nd to 26th, 2026.

Cloud studies & coastal landscapes

The special exhibition at the Sylt Museum in Keitum showcases plein air painting by the Düsseldorf School of Painting from the late 19th century, created on the island of Sylt. The works by these Düsseldorf artists document their engagement with the dynamics of weather and natural phenomena. Painting outdoors means responding to fleeting moments of perception. Consequently, their works do not present nature as a static motif, but rather explore the capturing of a moment, an experience, or a view.
