The view from the Wenningstedt beach steps is a familiar sight in many Sylt photographs. On this tour, you can experience this beautiful route firsthand before returning along the beach.

Sylt, as you know it from postcards. This hiking route leads through the dunes along the iconic wooden path to the north of Wenningstedt before returning along the beach to the center of Wenningstedt, the promenade. A short, delightful tour with pure beach feeling!

Our tip

Shortly before the end of the tour you can enjoy an ice cream, fish sandwich or burger on the Wenningstedt promenade.

Directions

We start at the parking lot on Berthin-Bleeg-Straße and climb the steps to the beach access. At the visitor's tax office, there's the option to go to the viewing platform on the dune to the left, before turning right onto the boardwalk, which leads through the dunes via several sets of steps. Halfway north, the boardwalk ends, and we continue walking on sand above the cliff. Near the campsite and the beach restaurant, we reach the beach and turn south again. We walk along the beach until we arrive at the wide beach steps (with a slide) on the Wenningstedt promenade. From here, we walk past the Haus am Kliff (House on the Cliff) and along Dünenstraße (Dune Street) back to the starting point.

Equipment

For this tour, a tourist card is required to access the beach. This can also be purchased on-site at the beach crossing.

Arrival & Parking

From the town entrance at the roundabout, follow the main road to the end.

From the town entrance in the south, follow Westerlandstraße and at the main road that branches off, turn left into Berthin-Bleeg-Straße and follow this to the end.

Paid parking is available at the starting point or alternatively at Gosch (Dünenstraße/Risgap) or at the corner of Dünenstraße/Mittelweg.

Take SVG bus line 1 or 3. Next stop: Wenningstedt/Mitte (a few minutes' walk from the starting point).
