This circular tour takes you along natural cycle paths through the Tinnumer meadows to the captain's village of Keitum.

On this tour, you'll discover both the expansive Tinnum meadows and the winding streets and old captains' houses of the Frisian village of Keitum. Along the route, you'll also find the sights of Tinnumburg, the Tinnum Zoo, the Old Frisian House and Sylt Museum, the Harhoog megalithic tomb, and Sylt's most famous church, St. Severin. Incidentally, Keitum is best explored on foot. So it's worth leaving your bike for a while to discover the gardens and thatched Frisian houses at your leisure.

Directions

From Westerland train station, we initially head south before turning onto the sea dike and passing the Westerland allotment gardens to reach the Tinnum meadows. Passing Tinnumburg Castle and the wildlife park, we continue on the paved cycle path towards Keitum. At the end of the cycle path, we turn left and, via the underpass at Keitum train station, reach the village center. We first head east to reach the Harhoog megalithic tomb and then cycle parallel to the Wadden Sea, past the Sylt Museums, to St. Severin Church in northern Keitum. From here, we return to the village center of Keitum via Gurtstig (Keitum's main street) back to the train station. From the station, we turn onto Siidik to take the gravel path back to Tinnum. We then cycle across Tinnum back to Westerland train station.

Our tip

Several cafés along the route are ideal for stopping for a cake break. For example, Café Nielsen am Watt in Keitum, the small tea room at Gurtstig, or the Teekontor Keitum.
