The Rantum Basin is a highlight for bird lovers. This seabird sanctuary is the most species-rich in Germany. Rare migratory birds can be observed here, for example. On the car-free dike of the Rantum Basin, you can enjoy nature and the vastness of the Wadden Sea undisturbed.

Our tip
At Rantum Harbor, the Sylter Kaffeerösterei (Sylter Coffee Roastery) serves delicious coffee and cake. If you're more in the mood for fish, Hafenkiosk24 is the place to go.
Directions
From Westerland train station, we head across southern Westerland to the Käpt'n'-Christiansen-Straße parking lot, where we turn onto the bike path towards Rantum. Passing the Sylt Stadium and Südwäldchen (a small wooded area), we leave Westerland on the paved bike path. Shortly before Rantum, we turn left towards the harbor, where the bike path around the Rantum Basin begins. This path leads north along the basin's dike. Reaching the other end of the Rantum Basin, we continue on the bike path through the Tinnumer Wiesen (Tinnum Meadows). Passing the wildlife park and Tinnumburg Castle, we arrive back in Westerland.
safety instructions
Sheep can sometimes be seen on the dike of the Rantum basin.
