A short tour through Schleswig-Holstein's oldest nature reserve: the Morsum Cliff. Here, you can explore earth layers up to 10 million years old.

The Morsum Cliff is the best place to observe the diversity of Sylt's natural landscape. This tour offers visitors the chance to discover blooming heathland, the Wadden Sea, reeds, megalithic tombs, dunes, and the geological highlight, the shimmering red and white cliff. But it's not just geologists who enjoy the different layers of the earth; birdwatchers will also find something to enjoy in this nature reserve. Information panels along the way explain the flora and fauna, as well as the unique geology.

Directions

We start at the Nösse parking lot at the Morsum Cliff and initially head east before turning left past the country house onto the wooden path toward the cliff. Once there, we briefly turn left to the viewing platform before turning right onto the hiking trail above the cliff. To reach the water below, we make a detour across the heathland, as direct access to the cliff is strictly prohibited. Once we reach the water below, we head west again between the mudflats and the cliff until we turn left over the sand dune and back to the parking lot.

Equipment

Sturdy, possibly waterproof footwear is recommended for the walk along the mudflats. After prolonged rain, it can be very muddy, so rubber boots may be a good idea.
