This tour takes you from Westerland to Wenningstedt, visiting most of the sights in Wenningstedt and Westerland.

This tour is suitable for both a short morning or evening stroll and a relaxing day trip. Many of Sylt's sights are located along the way. If you take the time to visit them, the relatively short journey can easily be extended to a full day. For example, on this route you can admire the fish in the Sylt Aquarium, admire the Denghoog megalithic tomb from the inside, play a round on the Wenningstedt minigolf course, around the Wenningstedt village pond or through the Südwäldchen (Southern Forest), visit the churches of St. Niels, St. Nikolai, and the Frisian Chapel, stroll along the Westerland and Wenningstedt promenades, or simply "look over the edge" at the many beach crossings.

Our tip

The Wenningstedt promenade is a great place to take a snack break. Whether it's a fish sandwich at Gosch, a burger at Twister's, or an ice cream at iismeer, there's something for everyone!

Directions

Starting at the "Traveling Giants in the Wind" sculpture at the train station, the route leads through Old Westerland, past the small St. Niels Church, towards Wenningstedt. From the railway line, we cycle along the bike path parallel to the L24 road. Upon arriving in Wenningstedt, the tour first takes us to the village pond and then to the Wenningstedt promenade with its "House on the Cliff." From here, we cycle parallel to the beach behind the dunes back to Westerland. In Westerland, we pass the Sylter Welle (Sylt Wave) water park, cross Friedrichstraße, and continue to the aquarium. Just before the Südwäldchen (South Woods), behind the Sylt Stadium, we turn off and cycle via Drosselweg to Lorens-de-Hahn-Straße, which leads us back to the train station.

safety instructions

Be careful at the railway crossing. Be sure to take the bike path from here, as cycling is not permitted on the L24.
