The highlights of Keitum in one tour: On the hiking trail along the mudflats to the famous Keitum church and back through the town center past old thatched-roof Frisian houses.

This hike will show you the most beautiful parts of Keitum. First, you can enjoy the view across the Wadden Sea to Kampen on the mudflat hiking trail, before continuing to St. Severin's Church on the outskirts of the town. Many famous people are buried in the cemetery, and the Seafarers' Church also captivates with its simple beauty. Back in the center of Keitum, old captain's houses with thatched roofs and lovingly landscaped gardens await discovery. A visit to the Old Frisian House and the local history museum of the Sölring Foriining is also possible along the way.

Directions

We start at the parking lot opposite the Friesensaal and immediately take the small path to the right of the parking lot to the mudflats. From there, we follow the paved path along the mudflats to Café Nielsen, where the tour continues north as a gravel path along the mudflats. At the level of the Keitum church, we turn our backs on the mudflats and walk past St. Severin's Church, parallel to the mudflats, along the Old Church Path, back to the center of Keitum. To reach the Old Frisian House and Local History Museum, we turn left in Keitum onto "Am Kliff" street. We follow this street to the end and return to the starting point via "Am Tipkenhoog" street.

Our tip

A nice place to stop along the way is Café Nielsen, which offers a view of the mudflats and a terrace.

safety instructions

The crossing to the mudflat path at the beginning of the tour is quite steep and bumpy. Alternatively, families with strollers can use a crossing further north. This one is flatter and paved.
