Uwe Dune, Red Cliff, lighthouse and Whiskey Mile in one tour - on this hike you will see the most beautiful views and sights of Kampen.

On this tour, you'll experience the highlights of Kampen. First, you'll climb Sylt's highest point – the 52-meter-high Uwe Dune. From here, you'll see Kampen's famous black and white lighthouse, also known as "Langer Christian" (Long Christian). From the viewing platform, you'll have a view of both the west beach and the Wadden Sea to the east. The trail continues above the Red Cliff to the Sturmhaube (Storm Hood). Then, the path leads down to the beach, where the cliffs, shimmering red in the evening sun, can be admired particularly impressively from below. The hike continues along the beach to the Kampen cross-range light. Although no longer in operation, it remains a popular photo opportunity. Shortly before the end, the tour leads along the Strönwai, also known as the "Whiskey Mile." Here, it's all about "seeing and being seen."

Good to know

Our tip

From the Uwe Dune, you can see almost the entire island in good weather—from List Harbor to the Morsum Cliff! The 110 steps are definitely worth the climb.

Directions

From the starting point, we follow the gravel path to the Uwe Dune and climb it. Back at the foot of the dune, we head north and walk past the Rungholt Hotel to reach the hiking trail above the Red Cliff. This leads to the parking lot at the Sturmhaube, from where we walk over the beach crossing to the beach. There, we take the opportunity to climb onto the wooden viewing platform. We then continue north along the beach until we reach the beach crossing at the beach bistro. There, we follow the path through the dunes to reach the Kampen lighthouse. From there, we follow the path back south and turn left at the Sturmhaube onto the paved hiking trail back to town. Once there, we make a short detour over the Strönwai back to the starting point.

safety instructions

The Red Cliff is in danger of collapsing, so please stay on the designated paths for your own protection and that of the island.

Equipment

Since the route is largely exposed to the wind, windproof clothing is recommended.
