A circular tour through the "Rantumer Dünen" nature reserve amidst thatched houses and with a view of the rough North Sea.

This short tour leads through the southern part of Rantum. The starting point offers a beautiful view of the beach and the North Sea before continuing into the "Rantum Dunes" nature reserve. In the dune valley in the middle of the heath, you can experience the Sylt dune landscape up close, before the route leads back to the starting point through the village with its thatched-roof houses.

Our tip

At the end of the tour, a short detour to the thatched-roof St. Peter's Church in Rantum is recommended.

Directions

We start at the parking lot in front of Rantum Church and walk along the beach path, past the beach shelter, to the beach access point. Before the beach steps, we keep left and follow the gravel path on the dune. This leads to the paved Henning-Rinken-Wai, which we follow briefly until the path through the Rantum dunes begins on the right. We follow this path through the nature reserve until we reach the path to Taadjem Deel. Here we turn left and, with a view over the Wadden Sea, cross Hörnumer Straße. From here, we head north on the Raanwai until we reach the pedestrian path heading north in front of the Hotel Watthof. We follow this path to the supermarket, where we return to our starting point via the beach path.

During the tour, please stay on the paths and do not enter the Rantum Dunes Nature Reserve. Dune protection is island protection.

Equipment

In strong westerly winds, a windproof jacket is recommended.

Arrival & Parking

From Westerland, follow Hörnumer Straße towards Hörnum. In Rantum, follow the road to the town center and turn right onto Strandweg.

The paid parking lot is located directly in front of the Rantum church on Strandweg and is also the starting point of the tour.

Take SVG bus line 2. Next stop: Rantum, Mitte.
