The shifting dunes – a unique highlight in List on Sylt
Surrounded by a beautiful heathland landscape, List on Sylt is home to Europe's largest contiguous area of shifting dunes. They have shaped the List landscape for decades. This special type of dune consists of sand drifts that are continually pushed eastward by strong westerly winds. They can move up to 10 meters per year. The shifting dunes are among the top highlights of the island of Sylt. To protect this unique natural spectacle, it was declared a nature reserve in 1923. From the viewing dune near Mövenbergstraße, you have a wonderful view of the shifting dunes.
Entering the shifting dunes is strictly prohibited.
However, you do have the option of taking a guided tour to the foot of the shifting dune. You can enjoy the unique natural surroundings, far from the noises of everyday life, and observe the native flora and fauna in a virtually untouched natural environment. On the "Exclusive Guided Tour to the Foot of the Shifting Dune" with the team from the Natural Forces Adventure Center, you'll get up close to the shifting dunes. You'll be guided exclusively along unpaved paths through the heathland to the foot of the largest shifting dune.
Further information about the tour can be found under the adjacent link.
