Tinnum Castle

Archaeological sites
Tinnum Castle is one of the oldest castles in Schleswig-Holstein.
Tinnum Castle is located in the Tinnum Meadows. The ring-shaped rampart has a diameter of 120 meters and a height of 8 meters. Based on excavated ceramic fragments, researchers estimate that the castle is over 2000 years old. Tinnum Castle served a variety of functions. Originally, the rampart was a Germanic place of worship that provided protection for the island's inhabitants from the Vikings.

The ring-shaped rampart is the last of three castles on Sylt. The Archsum Castle was destroyed, and the Rantum Castle was buried under the dunes. Tinnum Castle is open to the public for tours.
