The former main port was built in 1869. At that time, Munkmarsch Harbor provided the connection between Sylt and the mainland. Before the railway embankment was opened in 1927, all tourists had to arrive at Munkmarsch Harbor. Back then, passengers took the ferry from Hoyer to Munkmarsch. Today, the former main port is a private marina. Idyllic beaches border the harbor, and opposite is the luxurious Fährhaus hotel and restaurant, where you can enjoy views of the harbor and the Wadden Sea while dining.
