The Morsum Cliff was formed approximately 150.000 years ago. During the Saale Ice Age, the earth's layers were pushed together by glacial drift.
In the oldest nature reserve in Schleswig-Holstein, you can admire a fascinating natural spectacle while taking a walk.
The 1.800-meter-long and 21-meter-high cliff in Morsum, composed of diverse rock formations, is geologically unique in Europe. The Morsum Cliff's red appearance is due to the layers of earth: dark mica clay, red limonite sand, white kaolin sand, and brownish-yellow boulder clay. The Morsum Cliff is particularly beautiful at sunrise, when it shines in all its glory.
