Kampen Art and Culture Trail
Since 2008, an art and culture trail has been created in Kampen, honoring artists and creative professionals who felt a connection to Kampen. They have made Kampen what it is today.
Kampen's extraordinarily diverse landscape, between beach and mudflats, dunes and heath, invites you to take relaxing walks year-round, giving you new energy for everyday life. What's more, in and around Kampen, you can also retrace the footsteps of the past.
A past that includes illustrious names of well-known artists, writers, publishers, and public figures who found inspiration on Sylt in general and in Kampen in particular. Some of them stayed here temporarily, while others even found a permanent (adopted) home in this Frisian village, first documented in 1543.
Her creative work in Kampen, but also the public portrayal of her impressions of Kampen, gave our village a special magic and charisma that visitors can still feel today and that still inspires people to be creative.
To ensure that these personalities are not forgotten by our guests and our descendants, we have decided to create and continually expand the “Kampen Art Trail”.
On a stroll through our idyllic village, you can follow in the footsteps of important people at your own pace and discover many a secluded spot along the way. And you'll surely identify with one or two of the quotes on the now 40 memorial steles.
The Art and Culture Trail consists of inscribed cast bronze plaques on metal stands placed at prominent locations throughout the village. Each plaque is provided with a QR code that provides background information about the artist.
The art trail is financed mainly through the auction of Siegward Sprotte’s paintings from the Falkenstern Fine Art collection.
