Westerland's main beach is directly accessible via the Friedrichstraße and Strandstraße pedestrian zones. This beach is particularly popular with families, as the promenade offers a wide range of dining options, including the Crêperie am Meer, the Friends Bistro, the Kleine Haferland von Kölln, and the Gosch am Strand restaurant. There are also public restrooms and showers directly on the beach. Villa Kunterbunt also has a popular playground with sea views, and north of the main beach, the Sunset Beach restaurant with its surf school and Fun Beach (July & August) complete the sporting offerings.
