Keitum Cemetery

The "Cemetery by the Sea" in Keitum is picturesquely situated above the Wadden Sea around the Church of St. Severin. It has served as a resting place for centuries, presumably since pre-Christian times. The oldest gravestones date back to the 17th century and tell the story of sailors, captains, and whalers who shaped Sylt life. Prominent islanders such as Rudolf Augstein and Ferdinand Avenarius are also buried here.
