Cemetery of the Homeless
In the past, hundreds of sailors who had lost their lives in disasters washed ashore on Sylt's beaches without being buried. In 1854, Wulf Hansen Decker established the Cemetery of the Homeless. Simple wooden crosses and memorial plaques for the sailors were erected in the small cemetery.
