Every year on February 21st, behind the "Am Königshafen" residential area in List on Sylt (as everywhere else on the island), winter is driven out according to Frisian tradition. After a candlelit service in the Protestant St. Jürgen Church, the torches are distributed. The torchlit procession runs from the church to the Biike Square behind the Königshafen residential area. After the German and Frisian speeches, "Tjen di Biiki ön" (Tjen di Biiki ön) is called, the Biike is lit – a large collection of Christmas trees and hedge clippings, with a doll attached to the top. Then the torches can be thrown into the fire. Over kale and warm drinks, everyone waits together until the doll falls. Experience the romance of fire in List on Sylt.
