On February 21st, according to Frisian tradition, winter is banished from every island village. In Archsum, the torchlit procession begins at the Deichweg corner of Melnknop. The torchlit procession continues leisurely along the Deichweg to the Archsumer Biike (Biike). Punch and sweets are served at the Biikeplatz (Biike Square). Traditionally, German and Frisian speeches are given until the cry "Tjen di Biiki ön" (Tjen di Biiki ön) is heard. Once the Biike is lit by the numerous torches, everyone waits in anticipation until the doll falls. Afterwards, you can end the evening with a leisurely meal of kale.
