For a lively and livable island.
Worth living
Liveable Sylt
Together, Sylt in view
LEBENSWERT is an island movement of tourism stakeholders who are committed to sustainable development on Sylt.
With LEBENSWERT we want to initiate a continuous improvement process that balances social responsibility, ecological sustainability and economic strength on Sylt.
We are still at the beginning, but together we are creating positive change step by step.
The project sponsor and coordinator of LEBENSWERT is the Sylt Marketing GmbH.
The 17 goals as a basis
LEBENSWERT was launched in 2022 by Sylt Marketing, local tourism services, and with the support of the agency BAUM as an umbrella brand and certification system for sustainable businesses. Since then, we have been continuously developing LEBENSWERT.
However, our foundation remains unchanged: The 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and our WORTH LIVING Self-confession.
You can find more information about the creation and development process of LEBENSWERT here.
We are currently focusing on the following measures:
-
Networking and qualification of actors already acting sustainably
-
Making sustainable commitment visible
-
Motivating non-certified companies to act more sustainably
-
Making sustainability tangible through ecologically and socially oriented offers

The "Last Chance" flea market raises 510 euros for charity.
A great turnout, many special finds, and a strong statement for sustainability: The first "Last Chance" flea market organized by "LEBENSWERT Sylt," Remondis Sylt, and the Sylt Landscape Conservation Association (LZV) at the end of April in Rantum was a resounding success. A total of €510 in donations was raised, which will benefit various island associations and organizations – including the List Youth Fire Brigade, the Sylt Animal Shelter, the Sylt Family Center, the Wadden Sea Conservation Station, and the Search and Rescue Dog Unit.
In addition to the sales booths, the open day at the Remondis Sylt depot also offered insights into waste management. Visitors could, among other things, get to know the modern electric waste collection vehicle or take short tours behind the scenes. Dirk Effler and Dirk Heyde provided creative upcycling ideas, transforming seemingly discarded items into new products.
Due to the great response, a continuation of the format is already planned.
