On the island of Sylt, the bathing regulations apply from March 2024 to October 19, 31. During this period, certain shops are permitted to open on Sundays and public holidays from 11:00 a.m. to 17:00 p.m.
The spa regulation offers employees in retail stores in spa and recreation resorts the opportunity to work outside of regular opening hours at certain times of the year.
This regulation brings with it both opportunities and challenges.
On the one hand, employees can benefit from additional working hours and thus higher incomes. On the other hand, irregular working hours can be stressful, especially when they conflict with family or personal obligations.
Despite these challenges, the spa regulation offers many workers in tourist-oriented places such as Sylt an important source of income through additional employment opportunities.
Business owners are not obliged to open – each business can decide individually whether to make use of the regulation.
