What's going on in the sunny south?

Hörnum offers a variety of events that attract numerous visitors throughout the year.

From the maritime Harbor festival with live music, culinary delights and a varied program for children, to sporting highlights such as the Beach Polo World Cup, where you can experience the exciting games up close in a sandy setting, everything is there. Things are a little quieter at the annual torch relay to Midsummer Night where we celebrate the longest night of the year in a cozy atmosphere, or when we New Year's Eve Celebrate the New Year together with the only fireworks display on the island. Each event has its own charm and numerous activities that ensure an unforgettable experience.

The Biikebrennen

The Frisian National Day, or in short: The Biike, is a traditional festival that takes place every year on 21. February is celebrated and marks the beginning of spring. In this tradition, locals and visitors gather at the Hörnum campsite to light a large fire together. The Biike symbolizes not only the farewell to winter, but also the coming together of the community. The Biike in Hörnum is an unforgettable experience that celebrates the region's cultural roots and brings people together. The fire department sells beverages on site. Tip: Reserve a table at your favorite restaurant in advance for the kale dinner afterwards!

The Hörnum Easter fire

Experience the traditional Easter bonfire in Hörnum, which is especially popular with the locals. On the evening of Easter Saturday Every year, all visitors gather for an atmospheric torchlit procession through the idyllic streets, heightening the anticipation of the bonfire. Upon arrival at the campsite, the large Easter bonfire is lit, creating a cozy atmosphere among the dunes. A live band heats up the atmosphere and invites everyone to dance and celebrate. The local fire department is also on hand, providing bratwurst, cold drinks, and mulled wine.

Beach Polo World Cup

The Whitsun highlight in Hörnum

The Julius Baer Beach Polo World Cup brings together every year Pentecost International world-class polo players and thousands of spectators, top sporting performances and a relaxed supporting program.

Whether you spontaneously join in the excitement in the free, public spectator area or enjoy the luxury of the VIP area with exclusive catering by reservation is entirely up to you.

midsummer night

When a torchlight hike turns into a beach party, it can only be Midsummer Night in Hörnum!

The shortest night of the year starts every year 20. June with a torchlit procession around the southern tip of the island. Passing the lighthouse, the procession ends with a bonfire right on the beach, where chilled drinks and chilled music are served in a very special atmosphere.

The torches will be sold starting at 20:00 PM at the corner of Süderende and Odde-Wai, and the fire department will then light them on the beach. Starting at approximately 20:30 PM, we'll begin our hike around the Odde. No registration is necessary; everyone is welcome.

The Hörnum Harbour Festival

Always on the first weekend in August

Celebrate with us from 31.07. - 02.08.2026 the 35th Hörnum Harbour Festival, the maritime weekend in the south of the island!

In addition to the diverse live acts, an absolute highlight is the spectacular fireworks display.

Culinary offerings are presented by local restaurateurs, among others.

New Year's Eve fireworks

The only one on the island

Join us and toast the year 2026 at midnight.

To get to Hörnum - and back again - we recommend the free SVG shuttle buses.

Buses will run every half hour until 4 a.m. on New Year's morning.

Events of Hörnum restaurateurs and clubs for everyone

The fire department festival is an absolute highlight of the summer! With sparkling fire engines and tons of fun for the whole family, it brings the community together. Here, people celebrate, laugh, and work together to ensure safety. Come along and experience a day full of action, camaraderie, and a fiery atmosphere!

The three-hour free beach parties organized by DLRG and NIVEA are all about fun: Visitors of all ages can solve a puzzle about swimming rules, try out rescue equipment, or learn first aid techniques. They can also experience the benefits of good sun protection firsthand.

Each summer, the tour visits selected German seaside resorts on the North and Baltic Sea coasts for one afternoon. Over 100 DLRG volunteers invest their vacation time to provide families with information about water and sun, as well as the work of the DLRG.

The event will take place from 14.00 p.m. to 17.00 p.m.
