Golfing in Hörnum

Challenging greens in a stunningly beautiful setting

Germany's most popular golf course*

Budersand Sylt Golf Club, a typical 18-hole links course, is characterized by the barren Sylt dune landscape and lush heathland, alternating with swaying beach grass. This award-winning Sylt golf course is one of the best courses in Europe. In 2020, Budersand Golf Club was named Germany's best golf course by Golf Magazine with the German Golf Award. It also received first place in the "Most Popular Golf Course" category at the 2022 Golf Journal Travel Award. Budersand is a true links course, and that's how it plays. This means playing golf here always means playing with the weather, but it also means gaining new experiences: avoiding pot bunkers or even sinking into them; experiencing how immensely far the ball rolls on the hard fairway; feeling the crisp contact delivered by a well-hit iron; and feeling the inner joy when you hit the green in the right spot and the ball slowly rolls towards the flag.

The attached restaurant Strönholt is the perfect place for a post-round snack or a subsequent dinner overlooking the golf course and the North Sea. The Sascha Georgi Golf Academy, led by PGA Professional Sascha Georgi, guarantees the highest level of quality and enjoyment. Improve your game or get started in this newly discovered trend sport with the golf proficiency course.

The GC-BUDERSAND team and head greenkeeper Stefan Hansen look forward to your visit.

Cycling in Hörnum

On the best paths through the dune world

A well-developed, 200-kilometer-long network of cycle paths stretches across Sylt. A worthwhile destination for a bike tour from Hörnum is Rantum. The route leads idyllically through the dunes and along the mudflats. Halfway through, you'll pass Germany's most famous wooden shack, the Zanzibar.Host Herbert Seckler and his team offer one of the most sumptuous menus on the island – the huge wine cellar is also legendary.

Through the Sylt dunes past the Zanzibar to Westerland

This tour continues straight from Hörnum via Rantum to Westerland. The pristine dune landscape between Hörnum and Rantum is best experienced by bike. Along the way lies the famous Zanzibar Island, but a detour to Rantum Harbor, which has become an insider tip in recent years, is also possible. A recommended destination for this tour is the Südwäldchen (South Forest) in Westerland, where, with luck, you might spot a few ducks and squirrels along the way.

The tour starts next to the "Tiroler Stuben" restaurant in Hörnum Nord. A beautiful bike path runs parallel to the road, once used by the legendary island railway. This path leads you through the dune landscape, partially directly along the Wadden Sea, through the southern part of the island. It is mostly gravel, but is very well-suited for cycling.

You can easily return to Hörnum by bus (line 2 from Westerland/campsite) or, of course, by bike via Westerland and Rantum (approx. 50 min.).

Get to know the entire south of the island with all its natural beauty.

Variety is guaranteed on this tour, as you'll drive from Hörnum through the pristine dune landscape with stunning panoramic views of the sea. Once you reach Rantum, the tour continues across the Rantum Basin. On the car-free dike, you can enjoy uninterrupted views of the Wadden Sea and observe birds in the nature reserve. As a contrast to the dunes, the tour ends with a drive through the green meadows of Tinnum.

The tour also starts a short distance north of the "Tiroler Stuben" restaurant in Hörnum. A beautiful bike path runs parallel to the road where the island railway once ran. This path leads you through the dune landscape, partially along the Wadden Sea, directly to Rantum. There, you pass the idyllic village center and, after the "BSW-Dünenhotel," turn right onto "Dikwai," which leads to "Deichweg." At the end of the Deichweg, you can stop at the "Sylter Kaffeerösterei" (Sylt Coffee Roasting House) to fortify yourself for the onward journey across the Rantum Basin. Once you reach the other side, the route then continues through the Tinnum meadows, past the zoo and Tinnum Castle.

You can easily return to Hörnum by bus (line 2 from Westerland/ZOB) or, of course, by bike via Westerland and Rantum (approx. 50 min.).
