If you get butterflies in your stomach, it's not just in your stomach. With your feet in the sand, a wedding ceremony has something very earthy, with a view of the sea, something expansive and open. The very best start to a life together. Perhaps you've long had your very own favorite place together – with an idyllic view of the mudflats or on the wide western beach, nestled against the dunes or very close to the tide line. Please do not release balloons!

Ballooning is a part of many weddings – understandable given the view in the air and the atmospheric ascent. However, we would like to ask you to refrain from using balloons at your wedding on Sylt. The reason is simple: The balloons end up in the sea. There they pose a danger to fish and birds, which mistake the strings and balloon remains for food and die a painful death. It takes years for the balloons to decompose in nature. During beach cleanups, wedding balloons are among the most commonly found plastic waste. Help protect the North Sea habitat and please refrain from using balloons at your wedding.
