Tides

Tides on Sylt

Always good to know: When will the tide come in?

Of course, it's not the man on the moon that causes the water to flow in and out of the Wadden Sea. Nevertheless, our neighbor plays an important role in the changing tides.

The ebb and flow of the tides are what make the North Sea so special. The ebb and flow of the sea, influenced by the interplay of gravitational and centrifugal forces between Earth and the moon, is particularly evident on the east side of the island.

Not only does nature in the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site adapt to the constant change, but many activities on the island also depend on the tides:

The beach walk on the tide line, the Baden in the shallow waters on the east coast, the ride on the shore and of course the guided mudflat hikes.
