Lund Sylt
But it's not just the bread; everything else in this family-run business is made with the finest ingredients and a deep love for the products. Owner Jens Lund places particular importance on the regional and organic origin of his ingredients. For example, he sources seasonal vegetables from the Erdbeerparadies organic farm in Braderup, organic flour from Sylt and the Gut Rosenkrantz estate in Neumünster, and Sylt milk from Morsum. The menu is regional and seasonal, featuring high-quality, carefully selected local ingredients from the island, the surrounding North Sea islands, and the nearby mainland. It includes a small selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes, as well as the best North Sea fish and free-range meat.
In 1940, Stina Lund first opened the bakery's doors on Rantumer Straße, and soon after, specialties were available for every time of day. And so it has remained: Early in the morning, there are oven-warm rolls from the bakery, and at 9 a.m. the café opens with its inviting garden and 50s-style dining room. From 12 p.m. until early evening, creative, North German-inspired dishes are served from the kitchen. Throughout the day, the café is also a hotspot for sweet treats, whether strawberry tarts, Friesentorte (a traditional cake) or vegan chocolate cake. Coffee and tea specialties are served with cakes. There is also ice cream that connoisseurs rave about. Jens Lund, the pastry chef and master chef, was head pastry chef at the two-star Hamburg restaurant "Haerlin" before returning to his hometown of Hörnum. He now incorporates his experience and creativity into "Sölring Iskreem" (Sylter Frisian for "Sylter Ice Cream"). He produces these exclusively with high-quality ingredients and without artificial additives or flavors.
Lund Sylt has become a partner company of the following, among other things, due to the following activities. WORTH LIVING Sylt Initiative qualified:
- Tap water on offer instead of bottled mineral water
- Very close cooperation with regional producers e.g. the strawberry paradise Braderup
- Bonus program for employees
