Family business in Hörnum consisting of a café and restaurant with its own pastry shop, bakery and ice cream
Lund Sylt, located in the heart of Hörnum, is a Sylt family business run with skill, heart and passion. For three generations, they've been baking, cooking, creating cakes, and freezing ice cream here. The business is known throughout the island and beyond, especially for its bread, such as the particularly wholesome Sylt sourdough bread, which is made without yeast, with a 48-hour rest period, and using only Sylt ingredients: The wheat flour comes from Kai Petersen in Keitum, the rye flour from Erdbeerparadies in Braderup, the Sylt sea salt from GenussMacherei in List, and the water from the tap. That's all it takes.

Not only the bread, but also everything else is made in this family-run business using the finest ingredients and a great love of its products. Owner Jens Lund is committed to operating Lund Sylt as sustainably as possible. For example, he sources seasonal vegetables from the Erdbeerparadies organic farm in Braderup, organic flour from Sylt and Gut Rosenkrantz in Neumünster, and Sylt milk from Morsum. The food is regional and seasonal, with high-quality, select local ingredients from the island, the surrounding North Sea islands, and the nearby mainland. The menu offers a small selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes, as well as the best North Sea fish and free-range meat.

In 1940, Stina Lund first opened the bakery's doors on Rantumer Straße, and soon after, specialties were available for every time of day. And so it has remained: Early in the morning, there are oven-warm rolls from the bakery, and at 9 a.m. the café opens with its inviting garden and 50s-style dining room. From 12 p.m. until early evening, creative, North German-inspired dishes are served from the kitchen. Throughout the day, the café is also a hotspot for sweet treats, whether strawberry tarts, Friesentorte (a traditional cake) or vegan chocolate cake. Coffee and tea specialties are served with cakes. There is also ice cream that connoisseurs rave about. Jens Lund, the pastry chef and master chef, was head pastry chef at the two-star Hamburg restaurant "Haerlin" before returning to his hometown of Hörnum. He now incorporates his experience and creativity into "Sölring Iskreem" (Sylter Frisian for "Sylter Ice Cream"). He produces these exclusively with high-quality ingredients and without artificial additives or flavors.

This company has the LIVABLE SYLT Received certification, among other things, due to the following activities:
  • Tap water on offer instead of bottled mineral water
  • Very close cooperation with regional producers e.g. the strawberry paradise Braderup
  • Bonus program for employees
