Wellness, health & beauty

However you'd like to treat yourself on Sylt, the reward stays the same: a rejuvenated mind, body & soul.

The bracing, healthy climate of the coast, which is the result of a unique combination of temperature, wind and the island’s natural radiation. The sea wind is rich in trace elements like iodine. The air is so much cleaner than on the mainland. One cubic centimetre of air from Sylt’s beaches contains only a few particles of dust, while the air of the closest part of the mainland contains several hundred, rising to several thousands in the big cities and conurbations. This is partly because Sylt has no heavy industry, and also because the wind blows pure air in from over the sea. Health-conscious holidaymakers will appreciate the benefits of long walks along the tide lines. In the littoral zone, which is the part of the beach between the water and the high tide mark, the air is filled with fine droplets of seawater, which is breathed in automatically and which covers the skin in a delicate, health-giving film.

Beach sauna

Our open-air-relaxation area is covered with pristine white sand and provides wicker beach chairs that perfectly function as sunbeds – and don’t forget our pool, it’s quite sizeable...

The Finns may not have invented the sauna itself – but they have certainly perfected the way of sweating in wooden rooms. However, spending time in a sauna on Sylt is the perfect adventure: the open view of the North Sea surf, which steals the show from any conventional plunge pool, even allures sauna participants while they are sweating. Salt instead of chlorine and the sound of the sea instead of droning background music: that’s how the Frisian sauna culture works!

Four beach saunas from List to Hörnum really fire things up along the western beaches. Then it’s time to take the clothes off and get into the experience of hot and cold pleasure. And what should be kept in mind, it is absolutely healthy.

Climate on Sylt

When we say you can have all the champagne you want, we’re not encouraging you to get drunk: Sylts „Champagne-Air“ is quite literally a breathtaking experience. Allow yourself to be touched by the power of the sea!

There definitely are delicious drops right by the water’s edge, but these of course don’t contain any alcohol – although the term „Champagne-air“ is being used rather frequently. The North Sea wind breezing towards the island holds valuable minerals and trace elements, which are atomised by the surf- the technical term being „marine aerosol“.

Sylt is awaiting its guest with a precious concentration of natural healing factors, which is also called „bracing climate“: unhindered by particles of dirt, the sun can unfurl its full power and bathe in its reflection of the sea. Fresh North Sea wind stimulates the metabolism, and particularly in the autumn and winter months, breathing deeply during a walk along the water’s edge is pure healing power, because with a stormy west wind and roaring surf the concentration of minerals in the air is especially high. This does not only benefit the respiratory passages, but also the skin. Such tender loving care will touch your soul.
