A place in the light: enjoyment for every season

There are places on the island that exert a kind of magical pull. They either catch your eye directly, or, with a bit of luck, you learn about them through friends. For some, they might remain undiscovered forever, because their location is somewhat off the beaten track, outside the usual radius, and perhaps easy to overlook. Sometimes you have to venture out of your comfort zone, cycle in a different direction, away from the west coast towards the east of the island, but not too far.

Coffee, heart and craftsmanship

Café Curve (known to regulars as "the Curve") in Braderup is one of those very special places that constantly reinvents itself, evolves continuously, and provides a constant source of creative inspiration. For countless cappuccino, flat white, or espresso lovers, this small coffee house next to the leather manufactory has become indispensable. Since 2019, it has filled that niche with a lot of heart, good energy, exquisite creations, and other treats from the Joldelund organic bakery , which know exactly how to give you a boost at just the right moment.

After roughly ten years in the urban jungle of Berlin, Sylt native David Behrens and his partner Sarah returned to the island. Both had gained extensive experience in the restaurant and club scene, so opening their own café was a natural next step. However, they approached it with the hard-earned confidence to not conform to the norm , to not do things like everyone else, but to simply be themselves. It's an art that doesn't come easily to many, but one that creates a magical atmosphere where you feel genuinely at ease. Adding to this is the rustic charm of the large, thatched barn, which also houses the family's leather workshop . There, David's brother Willi, together with their parents, crafts clothing, accessories , and more from traditional, plant-tanned leather. So, if you're looking for that perfect belt or perhaps a travel bag for life, you're guaranteed to find it here. The barn's upper floor also invites you to browse and shop: there you'll find art and Moroccan rugs, Café Curve merchandise , and more. This creative space always offers something new to discover and fall in love with. Live concerts by Sarah, a professional singer, are also regularly held here.

A place to linger

During the season, the café is a wonderful place to linger every day, enjoying a strong cappuccino, vitamin-rich smoothies, creative sandwiches , and cakes. In the off-season, it's open Wednesday through Sunday. If you arrive at the right time, you can snag one of the sunny spots on the bench in the small garden. And be sure to look out for the sparkling light filtering through the treetops.
