Facebook group: Sylt - Solo travelers and singles

The inspiration for this Sylt page is the Facebook group Sylt - Solo travelers and singles, which was founded by Markus from Bochum. He has been a big fan of the North Sea for many years and regularly travels alone to the island. The idea came about quite personally: in 2016, he gave his mother a weekend at the seaside. There, he met many solo travelers. These encounters sparked his desire to create a space where solo travelers could connect. What initially started with a group for Norderney quickly expanded: he also founded a Facebook group for Sylt, an island that holds a special flair for Markus. What fascinates him about Sylt? Above all, its vastness, the beaches, and that special feeling when you look out to sea.

What's important to him is that the group isn't a typical dating site and that respectful interaction is paramount. For him, increasing membership numbers aren't important; rather, it's the peaceful coexistence of members that matters. This has led to many friendships within the group. Markus himself tries to travel to Sylt at least once a year. For him, the island is the perfect place to travel solo, offering just the right mix of tranquility, nature, and the opportunity to constantly meet new people.

A special feature of the group: At the request of all members, only people with a real Facebook profile and a clearly visible face in the profile picture are accepted.

Good morning! Last year, Frieda and Marco Montefusco opened their small guesthouse, "Pension Perla," in the heart of Westerland. Just a few minutes from the train station, the guesthouse combines North German down-to-earth charm with Italian flair. The rooms are individually decorated with select vintage furniture, a touch of design, and art on the walls. The concept focuses on personality, a personal touch, and responsible resource management.

I'm really looking forward to my time alone and everything the island has to offer: surfing, horseback riding, spa treatments, a bit of traveling around, long walks and hikes, cycling, maybe even riding an e-scooter, and of course, relaxing hours in the sauna.

Shared experiences

Are you interested in meeting new people and exploring the island together?

As wonderful as a solo trip may be, sometimes a little company is just what you need. If you feel the urge to do something in a group, here's some inspiration for exciting and entertaining island experiences. From classic mudflat hikes and special guided tours of the island's villages to a fantastic stargazing event. Cooking classes, tea seminars, and tastings are also great fun. A high enjoyment factor is guaranteed!

Guided Tours

The best way to explore the island is with a local on one of the many guided tours offered. Sylt's tour guides will immerse you in Sylt's nature, history, and culture, as there's a specialist for every topic. Whether on foot, by bike, or by bus, you'll experience a wealth of Sylt knowledge combined with witty anecdotes and engaging explanations. Many of the tours can be booked directly online in our event calendar, but the guides are also available for private (group) tours.

Cranberry promotions

Cranberries are overgrowing native plants, such as sundews and cranberries. For this reason, a pilot project was launched in Hörnum in 2015 by the district of North Frisia, granting the Wadden Sea Conservation Station permission to remove the cranberries from the area. The aim of this conservation effort is to remove the plants, including their root systems, from the dunes. If successful, native plants will sprout from the seeds in the soil the following spring.

Stargazing

When night falls over Sylt, the island reveals a truly special side: a clear, starry sky that, thanks to minimal light pollution, shines more intensely than in many other places. Whether twinkling constellations, passing shooting stars, or, with a bit of luck, even the Northern Lights – here, the sky seems almost within reach. Guided stargazing evenings invite you to delve deeper into the cosmos and open your eyes to the grander spectacle.

Few things are as important on Sylt as enjoyment and the pleasure derived from it. There's so much to enjoy in life, and especially on the island. Whether it's fresh fish, regional ingredients, or creative gourmet cuisine, enjoyment is paramount here and intertwined with the island's unique atmosphere. Sylt cooking classes are an ideal way to make new friends, even when traveling alone, and to experience the island from a completely different, culinary perspective.

Tea seminars

When it comes to tea, you can travel to faraway lands and enjoy unique aromas on the island. This is thanks to the diverse range of tea shops on Sylt, whose extensive selection often makes choosing difficult. The tea seminars at [website/store name] are highly recommended and helpful in making your decision. organically certified tea house Ernst Janssen and in the Keitum Office Building

Wine, beer & whiskey tastings

The tastings in the hotel's own brewery are also very exciting and sociable. Kampen balaclava, the Whisky tastings in Rantum or the Wine experience tours in the Keitum vineyard with Nils Lackner.

I don't know exactly what it is, but the island has simply enchanted me! I love the atmosphere the sky offers on Sylt, day or night! I find it truly authentic! My highlight is definitely sundowners on the beach with a glass of "the lightness of being." I enjoy the food, whether it's a beachside shack or a fancy restaurant. And the best part is: if I'm in the mood for company, it's easy to meet people. If I'm looking for peace and quiet, I can find that too.

forest Baden

Forest bathing on Sylt is a special experience for all the senses: In the tranquil greenery of the Kampen bird sanctuary, it's not about speed, but about conscious perception. Slowing down step by step, feeling nature, marveling, and simply strolling aimlessly through the forest. Accompanied by mindful exercises and the special atmosphere of the forest, a deep tranquility arises, almost like immersing yourself in another world. An experience that grounds you, slows you down, and shows you how beneficial it can be to simply be in the moment. Forest bathing originated in Japan, where it is called "Shinrin-Yoku." The term means something like "immersion in the atmosphere of the forest."

I live in Altona and often travel to Sylt alone. I usually stay at the youth hostel in Hörnum or return the same day. I then spend hours walking on the beach. There by the sea, I often feel the need to sing. It opens my mind and my heart. I usually bring my art supplies too, and I like to sit on the beach or in the dunes, painting, completely absorbed by the sounds of nature.
