Our tip for the summer
For the high season between July and September, you should definitely book in advance, as Sylt is popular and “wild camping” is strictly prohibited on the entire island.
Also – but not only – because more than 50% of the island is a nature reserve.

Caravan rental
Don't have your own caravan but love camping? Then rent one from Marcus Graening! The Sylt native rents out a total of 27 modern caravans at the Westerland, Morsum, Rantum, and Hörnum campsites. All caravans feature an awning with a seating area and a fully equipped kitchen.
Camping and pitches in winter on Sylt
Many of Sylt's campsites offer you the opportunity to travel to the island with your campervan even in winter:

Westerland campsite: You can stay overnight here with your self-sufficient camper van using self-check-in. Please note that the sanitary facilities, including the washing-up areas, are closed during the winter (November 1.11 - March 31.3).

Rantum campsiteHere you can stay overnight in your self-sufficient camper van year-round and check in and pay using a machine. The restrooms are closed from November to March.

Motorhome parking space Hörnum: In Hörnum, 40 pitches welcome you even in winter! The adjacent service building, including showers, toilets, dishwashing, and laundry facilities, is also open year-round.

Kampen campsite: Here all pitches and facilities are open to you all year round.

Mühlenhof campsite: The campsite, idyllically located in Morsum, is open year-round. Only the water supply at the pitches is turned off.

Südhörn campsiteThe Tinnumer campsite is normally open all year round, but from October 2026 it will close for renovation and reconstruction work.

Wenningstedt campsite: Closed from December to February. The campsite opens for Christmas and New Year, but the water is turned off at the pitches.
Arrival with caravan and motorhome
Traveling to Sylt with a caravan or motorhome is easy either by car train across the Hindenburgdamm causeway or by ferry from Rømø to List. Both options are equipped for transporting camping vehicles, and advance booking is strongly recommended, especially during peak season.

There are seven official campsites on Sylt. These are located in Westerland, Wenningstedt, Rantum, Hörnum, Kampen, Morsum and Tinnum and offer pitches for tents, motorhomes and caravans.
