From March to October, caravan and tent enthusiasts will find plenty of fantastic tent and motorhome pitches on Sylt.
Many of the campsites are even open all yearIf you prefer to travel without your luggage, simply rent one of the many comfortably equipped Rental caravan.
Our tip for the summer
For the high season between July and September, you should definitely book in advance, as Sylt is popular and “wild camping” is strictly prohibited on the entire island.
Also – but not only – because more than 50% of the island is a nature reserve.

Don't have your own caravan but love camping? Then rent one from Marcus Graening! The Sylt native rents out a total of 27 modern caravans at the Westerland, Morsum, Rantum, and Hörnum campsites. All caravans feature an awning with a seating area and a fully equipped kitchen.

Westerland Campsite : Here you can stay overnight with your self-sufficient motorhome via self-check-in. Please note that the sanitary facilities, including the washing-up areas, are closed during the winter (November 1.11st - March 31.3st).

Rantum campsite : Here you can stay year-round in your self-sufficient campervan and check in and pay via a machine. The sanitary facilities are closed from November to March.

Hörnum Motorhome Site : In Hörnum, 40 pitches welcome you even in winter! The associated service building, including showers, toilets, dishwashing and washing facilities, is also open all year round.

Camping Kampen : Here all pitches and facilities are open for you all year round.

Mühlenhof campsite : This idyllic campsite in Morsum is open all year round. Only the water supply to the pitches is turned off.

Camping Südhörn : The Tinnumer campsite is normally open all year round, but from October 2026 it will close for renovation and reconstruction work.

Wenningstedt campsite : Closed from December to February. The campsite will be open for Christmas and New Year's, but the water supply to the pitches will be turned off.
Traveling to Sylt with a caravan or motorhome is easy either by car train across the Hindenburgdamm causeway or by ferry from Rømø to List. Both options are equipped for transporting camping vehicles, and advance booking is strongly recommended, especially during peak season.

There are seven official campsites on Sylt. These are located in Westerland, Wenningstedt, Rantum, Hörnum, Kampen, Morsum and Tinnum and offer pitches for tents, motorhomes and caravans.

Campsites on Sylt are particularly busy during peak season (June–September). It is recommended to book several months in advance to ensure availability of your preferred pitch.

The campsites in Kampen , Wenningstedt , Westerland and Hörnum are located directly on the dunes and therefore in close proximity to the beach – from there you can reach the North Sea in a maximum of 500 meters on foot.
The campsite in Rantum is located next to the Rantumbecken nature reserve; the west beach is about 400 meters away.

Yes, dogs are generally allowed at campsites on Sylt. There is usually a small fee, and you must register your dog with the campsite in advance.

Wild camping – that is, camping without registration outside of official campsites – is not permitted on Sylt . For camping stays, registered pitches at official campsites must be used.

Yes, winter camping is possible at several campsites on Sylt, especially for self-sufficient motorhomes. Camping Kampen, Camping Mühlenhof, and the campsite in Hörnum are open year-round .
