Guide dogs and assistance dogs for people with disabilities are permitted on all beaches, regardless of the season, as part of their intended use and training, provided they are kept on a leash. Generally, dogs are only allowed on designated dog beaches during the season.

Spa fees for people with disabilities

The following rules apply to spa fees for people with disabilities: In all island resorts, with the exception of Hörnum, a 80% discount is granted for severe disabilities of 20% or more. The registered accompanying person is admitted free of charge. In Hörnum, a 80% discount is granted for severe disabilities of 50% or more. The registered accompanying person also receives a 50% discount.

And to ensure that the wide sandy beach is a pleasure rather than an obstacle, beach wheelchairs are available for rent at various beach access points. Car train
The DB SyltShuttle or the RDC Autozug Sylt will take you from Niebüll across the railway embankment to the island. You'll stay in your vehicle for the entire 40-minute crossing.

There are direct intercity connections from various German cities to Westerland. Deutsche Bahn also operates regional services between Sylt and the mainland. If you need assistance boarding or disembarking, please let us know before your trip. The Deutsche Bahn service team will be happy to assist you on-site.

Tip: Deutsche Bahn offers a luggage service to the island.
Ferry
The crossing from Havneby on Rømø to List on Sylt takes approximately 40 minutes. Guests with disabilities are requested to register at the ticket counter. Spacious parking spaces are available, and the lounge area is easily accessible by elevator.
Airplane
There are various direct and connecting flights to the island of Sylt. Sylt Airport staff will be happy to assist you with disembarkation and the journey to the arrivals terminal. There is a wheelchair-accessible restroom in the airport building. Please indicate your disability when booking your flight.

Sylt offers a variety of options for enjoying the beach to the fullest, even with mobility restrictions. Thanks to the appropriate infrastructure and special offers, you can experience the North Sea in a barrier-free and comfortable way.

In many places on Sylt , barrier-free beach access points provide a comfortable and safe route across the dunes to the sea. Wide paths with a gentle slope make it possible to reach the beach with a wheelchair, walker, or stroller.

For those wishing to stay right by the water, several beaches offer special beach wheelchairs . These are equipped with extra-wide tires, allowing for easy movement on the sand. Use is usually free of charge, but advance reservation is recommended.

A particular highlight is the CadWeazle : an electrically powered outdoor wheelchair specifically designed for use on uneven terrain – including the beach. The CadWeazle can be rented at selected stations and allows users to move independently along the beach – even right up to the water's edge.

Beach chairs are available along some promenades , accessible via level access. These beach chairs offer protection from wind and sun and allow you to experience the typical Sylt feeling with a sea view.

Accessible beach crossings

No barrier to the beach

- A disabled-friendly path at beach exit 17 (Weststrandhalle) leads to a comfortably designed viewing platform, where you can relax and enjoy the sunset.
- There is a disabled-accessible beach crossing at the “Sturmhaube”.
- At the beach crossing "Risgap/Parkplatz Horsatal" you will find disabled parking spaces and a disabled-friendly beach crossing that leads to the beach - but not directly to the beach chairs.
- There are several barrier-free beach chairs available on the promenade in Wenningstedt.
- There's also beach access in Wenningstedt, south of Strandstraße. The beach steps border the open spaces of the "Haus am Kliff" and are equipped with a lift, allowing you to easily reach the platform on the beach with a wheelchair. From the platform, an elevator leads all the way to the beach.
- At the Hotel Miramar, there is a paved beach access with a slight incline to the "Badezeit" beach section. Due to the incline, an accompanying adult is required.
- The crossing at Strandstraße is the best way for wheelchair users to reach the promenade, as it's almost at ground level. You'll find numerous accessible beach chairs along the promenade.
- The paved beach crossing on Brandenburger Straße near the Sunset Beach surf school requires an accompanying person for wheelchair users due to its incline.
- The beach crossing at Café Seenot is suitable for wheelchair users due to its slight incline.
- The step-free, but sandy, beach crossing "Sandwall Nord" is located at the level of the ADS Gerd-Lausen Haus. A beach wheelchair is required for this access.
- There is a step-free beach crossing at the “Samoa” beach crossing.
- Step-free beach crossings are available on the east beach (with ramps)
- A sandy access at the nudist west beach (Süderende)

Street, beach and swimming wheelchairs are available free of charge at the following beach crossings and tourism services during the season.

Westerland: At the beach crossing near the restaurant “Distress at Sea” A beach wheelchair is available. Information: Guest card inspector at the beach crossing or lifeguard stand 4.25 (Tel. 0151 27615173) in season daily from 10:30 am to 17:00 pm.
Rantum: In Rantum, two beach wheelchairs can be rented by prior appointment. Information: Rantum depot (Tel. 0160 90754315, registration by telephone necessary)
Hörnum: It is possible to rent a street wheelchair, information: Hörnum Tourist Service (Tel. 04651 96260).
