Golfing on Sylt

There are four golf courses on Sylt: Golf Club Sylt, Marine Golf Club Sylt, Golf Club Budersand and Golf Club Morsum

The golf courses on Sylt are also open to non-members. However, tee time bookings at GC Morsum are only possible via email request. 

Tip: Early booking of tee times is recommended, especially during the summer months or holiday season. 

The cost of golf on Sylt varies depending on the season and time of day. While an 18-hole round of golf costs around €50 in winter, the price can rise to around €110 in the summer months (at the Morsum and Budersand golf courses, prices are about 10-20 percent higher, as they are private golf courses. Incidentally, guests of the Hotel Budersand receive a 20 percent discount on green fees at GC Budersand). 

The green fees for 9-hole golf rounds are about half as high as for 18-hole rounds. 

Tip: Green fees are cheaper in the morning and late afternoon at all golf courses with “Early Bird” or “Sundowner” offers. 

If you only want to use the practice facility (driving range), you will have to pay a daily range fee of approximately 10 euros in the pro shop.

The GC Sylt and Marine GC Sylt golf courses each also have a beginner-friendly "short course." Use (a day pass) costs approximately 30 to 40 euros.

Children and young people receive a discount of approximately 30 to 50 percent on all golf courses.

If you'd like to play on more than one golf course, we recommend taking advantage of the golf hopping offer on the Golf Island of Sylt. This is only valid from April 15.04th to June 15.06th and from September 15.09th to October 31.10st. Information about golf hopping can be found in the Flyer, on the websites of the participating golf courses or by calling the local secretariat.

Beginner courses are offered at GC Sylt and Marine Golf Club. Lessons are available upon request at GC Budersand and GC Morsum.

Tip 1: Early booking of beginner courses (and other courses) is recommended, especially during the summer months and holiday periods. 

Tip 2: As a golf beginner, you can visit the so-called beginner-friendly “short course” at GC Sylt or Marine Golf Club Sylt (day ticket about 30 to 40 euros).

Most of the Sylt courses are open only to golfers with a HCPI of 36 or better. The practice facilities (driving range) are open to everyone.

Tip: If your HCPI is still above 36, we recommend calling the local office. A satisfactory solution can usually be found. 

Golf equipment rental is available at all Sylt golf courses. Golf sets (golf clubs including golf bag) cost approximately €30, golf trolleys cost approximately €5 to €10, and golf carts cost approximately €50 (based on 18 holes). 

Tip: It's worth calling the reception or pro shop early to reserve golf equipment. Demand is particularly high during the summer months.

The special feature of Sylt's golf courses is the island's exposed location. Views of the surrounding North Sea and Wadden Sea are evident from all golf courses. The enjoyment of the fresh North Sea air and the often strong winds are highly appreciated by guests. In addition, the surface of the golf courses is somewhat harder than on the mainland, which means the ball lands harder and rolls longer. Many golfers compare Sylt's golf courses to Scottish links courses, the original form of golf. 

Tip: If you want to experience true links golf, we recommend booking a tee time at GC Budersand or Marine GC Sylt. GC Sylt and GC Morsum are more parkland courses, but also have a slight links golf feel.

Every golf course on Sylt offers unique views of the North Sea or the Wadden Sea National Park from individual holes. The most famous view of the surrounding Wadden Sea is from the "Strönholt" clubhouse at Budersand Golf Club. 

Tip: Other unique views of the national park are offered by golf course 3 at GC Sylt and golf course 14 at Marine GC Sylt. Golf course 2 at GC Morsum is even built in close proximity to the waterfront.

The golf courses are also open in winter. Due to ground frost or heavy rainfall (or flooding), the golf courses may be temporarily closed. 

Tip: Call the local office to find out whether the golf course is playable.

Major amateur golf tournaments take place, especially in the summer months. It's worth checking the tournament calendars at the respective golf courses. One of the most well-known tournaments is the Sylt Open (at GC Sylt). A tournament is played on four consecutive days. Tip: Early booking is recommended.

In addition, the Sylt Pro-Am will take place in September at three of Sylt's golf courses. Some of Germany's best golf professionals compete here. The interesting thing is that in a "Pro-Am," a golf professional plays with three amateurs (of all skill levels) in a "flight." This format offers amateurs in-depth insight into the playing style and thoughts of a "golfing veteran." It's a great opportunity to pick up some tips and tricks!
