Cape Horn in Hörnum

The southernmost beach restaurant on the island of Sylt

Not far from Hörnum Odde, right on Hörnum's west beach, you'll find the Kap-Horn restaurant. You'll be closer to the sea than at almost any other culinary spot on the island. This makes this family-run establishment, now in its second generation, so unique and even a popular film location. Here, Sylt tradition blends seamlessly with warm hospitality. Whether as a stop during a walk around Hörnum Odde or as a deliberately chosen destination for the evening, Kap-Horn is a wonderful place to stop and enjoy a meal. The menu features regionally and traditionally inspired dishes, from plaice prepared in various ways to Husum specialties, pasta, and Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake).

In Hörnum, time moves a little differently; you slow down within moments.

Stage 16

Where the soul meets the sea

The coolest beach spot, worth hiking miles across the dunes for. Buhne 16 is legendary, not least because it was one of the first surfing hotspots of its kind on the island. This family-run business on the beach, which was already a playground for celebrities in the 60s and 70s, has managed to become increasingly trendy over the years while remaining grounded. They're constantly tinkering with the place to make it even cozier.
This is a place where everyone meets – locals, celebrities, surfers, young and old. It's the relaxed, laid-back atmosphere that Tim and Sven Behrens – the owners of the beach – and their super-friendly crew create.

Right at the front in Wenningstedt

Inspired by the vastness of the North Sea and its endless beach, the Strandhafer restaurant combines a relaxed beach vibe with refined cuisine. And as for its proximity to the sea: it couldn't be any closer, otherwise you'd get wet feet and the tide would erode the building's structure. On the large, shaded terrace, you can enjoy fresh salads, regional seasonal dishes such as asparagus with hollandaise sauce, or burgers, for example, made with lamb from Sylt.

The kiosk complements the offerings with healthy, sweet, and savory snacks. It's especially convenient: simply scan the QR code in your beach chair, select your food and drinks on your phone, and pay directly while everything is freshly prepared for you. Self-service at its finest. Perfect for enjoying the sunset with a view of the sea and a drink in hand. And if the wind and weather turn rough, the indoor area offers a cozy retreat.

Uncle Johnny's

Right at the front in Wenningstedt

Uncle Johnny's Beach Bar is the perfect spot for hungry beachgoers who want to combine delicious food with a true North Sea experience. A variety of dishes come from the galley, accompanied by drinks from around the world – served with cheerful service and a panoramic sea view. During the day, the menu features classics like hamburgers, "Mom's Rice Pudding," fresh cakes, or a daily special. In the evening, the offerings become more sophisticated: Shanghai Chicken, sole fillets, or surf & turf deliciously blend the flavors of land and sea. For a quick bite, the kiosk also offers snacks to take to the beach. The concept is the brainchild of the Behrens brothers, who were practically born into the restaurant business. No wonder, since their cousins run the legendary Stage 16 In Kampen, just a little further north along the beach. Uncle Johnny's celebrates maritime rusticity at its finest and impresses with its variety without being generic. A place you'll want to be, because it simply doesn't get any more seaside than this.
