Sylt is

fishing on Sylt

The fact that you can catch your dinner on Sylt not only from the North Sea, but also from inland waters, surprises many, and is what makes fishing on and off the island so diverse. Wild fishing is, of course, out of the question; the rule is: only possession of a fishing license and fishing permit entitles you to fish in the North Sea and Sylt's inland waters. And then: Good fishing.

For fishing equipment, you should always choose a strong rod, a reel with the highest possible gear ratio, and a strong line. Especially on summer evenings, the chances of catching big fish are good on the west coast. Plaice, mackerel, and garfish are there in search of food.

Recipe tip mackerel

There are different ways to prepare this simple yet delicate fish.

Sylt's North Sea mackerel is already a highlight on the menus of numerous restaurants and beach bistros. There are various ways to prepare this simple yet delicious fish. At Buhne 16, it's served fresh; you can practically watch the catch. Less than an hour later, the mackerel is prepared and served. A popular cooking method is simply frying it in oil until crispy. A salad of Morsum potatoes or a delicate leaf salad with a balsamic vinaigrette and Sylt strawberries would be a perfect accompaniment.

If you would like to test it in your own four walls and like it a bit more challenging, you should definitely try the Recipe by Michelin-starred chef Johannes King It's definitely worth it! And for all those who enjoy cooking for themselves, we recommend our Restaurant search.

The Sylt Fishing Club In cooperation with the Keitum Tourism Service, we offer fishing opportunities in two inland waters. Katrevel, a manageable lake in the middle of the Morsum meadows near the dike, with a balanced biodiversity.

Tip: There is also an accessible walkway for wheelchair users at Katrevel.

This is located directly next to a wooden jetty and was built by the Sylt Anglers' Association. There are also two accessible parking spaces available.

Alternatively, there's the Siel, which winds its way 18 kilometers through the middle of the island of Sylt, similar to a river, between Tinnum and Morsum. Any angler seeking peace and quiet is sure to find a quiet spot in this water, which is only a few meters wide. A variety of fish species are also found here.
